Know Your Rights! (with Tanmia.ma)

In 2005-06, with funding from the European Union,  MTDS and the Association Tanmia.ma teamed to produce a series of animated stories entitled, Know Your Rights! The stories, conceived by Moroccan women and children during focus groups sessions held in the pre-production phase, illustrate key reforms in Morocco’s new Family Law and universal principles of children’s rights.

Built with Flash animation, the colorful designs use local characters to speak to the audience about new age restrictions on marriage, women’s right to divorce, the negative consequences of child abuse and child labour and the importance of schooling. Audio is available in the Moroccan Arabic dialect, Berber and French. The series is distributed on CD Rom or online: http://connaistesdroits.tanmia.ma/

Released in September 2006, to date 1000 copies on CD Rom have been delivered to local NGOs and schools and employed in numerous awareness raising sessions. The tool, which is adaptable to other topics, is an effective vehicle for reaching youth. Because it relies on audio and visual images to deliver its message, it is also useful for literacy and non formal education related activities.

The online version of the awareness raising tool recently was named one of ten finalists by Radio France International (RFI) for the best website in Africa. See: http://www.rfi.fr/pressefr/articles/084/article_257.asp
