Our Approach
The Internet and related communication technologies offer unprecedented opportunities to empower people by enabling the free flow of ideas and access to information and knowledge. ICTs are at the foundation of ongoing social and economic transformations described by Thomas Friedman as “world flattening.” MTDS’ ICT4D unit is about making these economic and social transformations possible in the countries, communities and sectors where we, our clients and our local development partners work. For this we apply five basic principles and approaches.
1. Strengthening capacities, empowering people. MTDS knows that just because a solution is technically feasible, this does not mean it will be easily adopted by the individuals and communities for whom it is destined and deliver the intended results. Our ICT4D team includes talented trainers and local development experts who are aware of the importance of developing local capacity and supporting grassroots initiatives. The key to sustainable solutions and long term returns on development investments lies in empowering local partners.
2. Thinking locally. One of MTDS’ key strengths is its knowledge of the local settings in which it works. Whether inside or outside Morocco, the company’s development approach features participatory needs assessments and project design processes. Whenever possible, MTDS partners with local organizations for project implementation
3. Cost effectiveness and open access. In most of the settings where MTDS works, maximizing value for money is crucial. We favor open source and low cost computing solutions when it serves our clients’ needs. We are an authorized reseller of many leading brand computer products and use our status to lower client costs.
4. Getting results. MTDS project management methodology is pragmatic and results oriented. MTDS’ very existence in Morocco’s competitive IT market depends on its rigorous management and mastery of costs and benefits to deliver results and value for its customers. Our project designs respect establish norms for planning and implementation and feature strong results based monitoring and evaluation techniques.
